What are the effects?

Due to the increasing number of solid waste found on beaches and in the ocean, countries that depend on tourist trade will also be in danger. The fishing industry has been facing difficulties in catching fish due to the decrease of fish and other sea animals. Debris also poses as a problem to them. 69% of the fishermen said that their catch had been contaminated with debris. It take 1-2 hours to clean debris from the nets per week. Debris causes boats to avoid some fishing areas. Although the fishing industry has been associated with marine pollution, nothing has been done on the part of the industry. The net and catch could be contaminated by chemicals. This could result in 2000 pounds loss. A fouled propeller can cause up to 300 pounds for a diver to fix it. Each boat would lose between 6000- 30000 pounds a year due to marine debris. Countries that depend on their fishing industry for survival will face danger.

The animals will die one by one. Sewage that is in the ocean robs the oxygen from the plants. This results in the death of many sea animals. Global warming also changes the temperature of the ocean. This will kill the animals that cannot adapt to the change. It also removes the substances that keep the ocean clean, this means that the water will be dirty which will kill the animals. Residues from pesticides also pose a threat to the animals. Residues often pile up in the coast or in marine biota. This can kill the animals that are living in that area. When algae blooms it produces a toxin that kill animals associated with it. Overall you can see that there are many ways for the animals to die. If one animal in the food chain becomes extinct, the whole chain gets disrupted and eventually every single organism in that food chain including us humans will die.
